  • AS2 -UrbanaCube
The 'REC Locator' app above is written in Actionscript3, and uses a third-party 'tooltip' component.
Created to replace this page, it uses separate classes for the states and RECs (U.S. Coast Guard Regional Examination Centers), as well as separate .AS files to instantiate the RECs and states for easy updating if changes are needed.
The music player above has advanced features few other players can claim.
It gathers the list of songs to display using a MySQL database, filtered by album.
The songs stream directly from a Flash Communication Server owned/operated by Mike instead of the 'pseudo-streaming' Flash provides by default.

UrbanaCube

Some years ago, I had the privilege of playing bass for Urbana, a terrific band based in Germantown/Urbana, MD. While it was quite a drive for me, I didn't mind traveling from Herndon to Urbana to rehearse. The band split up when Matt Riedl, vocalist and guitarist, moved to NC. I have very fond memories of that time, and in particular, a gig we played at Matt's workplace, the Edmund Burke school. The video was shot by another EB school employee, who couldn't decide which audio source to use... the on-cam microphone, or the mix board. Consequently, you'll hear the audio change dramatically throughout.

Regarding the cube, I'd found some really interesting 3D Flash utilities and decided to push this one a little far. Since the mouse simultaneously controls the cube's rotation, as well as the video player controls, things can be a little goofy when trying to change the volume or scrub video. Time permitting, I'll make it more easy to use.

NOTE: This cube loads 5 fairly hefty videos simultaneously. Broadband ONLY. If you're on dialup, you may need to wait a day or two.
