Saturn Vue hits deer

Coming home on Route 7 East pretty much at this exact spot, I encountered a deer. A medium sized doe, it did the classic stupid deer move and ran directly into me as I attempted to get by. I was in the right lane going just under 60 when I spotted it standing just shy of the middle of the right lane. I braked hard, but not trying to stop, I was trying instead to go around to the left. Just as I got close, at a distance leaving no room to change direction quickly enough, it turned and headed straight into my path. I did what I could, even blowing the horn, but still hit it going around 35mph by then.

The deer was knocked down and immediately began thrashing violently in the middle of the road. I pulled off immediately, and before I'd even come to a stop, it had gotten back on it's feet and stumbled off. I watched it regain steadiness, and go off into the woods. I got out with my flashlight, and checked out the car, then went to see if I could find that deer. I saw it on the left side of Stone Hill Lane about 50 yards in from Rt. 7. While I pondered finishing it off with the flashlight, it scampered away. Then I called Geico, and filed a claim. Driving home, ANOTHER deer crossed my path just at the turn from Business 7 onto Hermitage Blvd. (my street). I momentarily contemplated revenge, but just lunged at it and honked the horn, scaring it over the low stone wall there and out of sight.

I'm fine, not even the slightest injury, and the airbag didn't even deploy. This really sucks. *sigh*. I hope Sandy bags a whole pile of 'em hunting this year.
